In the latter part of the 19th century and early part of the 20th Century ceramic designs were based on fluid lines and sinuous curves, influenced by nature and known as the Art Nouveau period. Charles Rennie Macintosh also made a huge impact on designs with the rose dominating many patterns, interspered with straight lines. The Arts & Crafts movement of the same period was much more simple and chunky in style than Art Nouveau, although just as distinctive.
